"If you ain't got love" (4.3 MB)
This is the audio track from the video for "If you ain't got love", the Mason Jennings song that I covered with Annabelle Chvostek (of Wailin' Jennys) last fall. We sing and play in my office, in front of my computer, home-video style. - I've had some emails from people who would like to add our version to their music collection. Enjoy! And if you haven't heard Mason Jennings' Boneclouds album yet, you MUST BUY IT, it is one of my favorites of all last year.

"Pretty Black Ship" | (3.1 MB)
A new song.
I bought a cassette 8-track machine off ebay last month, and the first thing I recorded on it was a silly round that my friend Anais Mitchell taught me, about an alligator named Albert. I sang it eight times, once on each track, to test the machine, and I think that... I do love the machine. So the very next thing I recorded was a new song I wrote last week (and you will see that it was inspired by singing that little round). In times of trouble, write and sing the silliest songs you possibly can.

"The Soft Parts" | (4.6 MB)
Live from Lizard Lounge w/ Session Americana.
After spending four days in the studio with Session Americana, we played a beautiful live show at Lizard Lounge. It was.... just wonderful. Many smiles. Thanks to Mel Goldsipe for sending me this live recording from the show... an older song, but never released, "the soft parts" features Dinty Child on the Kalimba! Crazy. Check out Session Americana online. We are working on a collaborative record that I am almost too excited about.

"7 Days" | (4.6 MB)
Again for your amusement - the Craig David Cover.
This is recorded by my friend Jon Hain at least three years ago, and I dedicated it to his intern Miguel, who loves the song as much as I do. I'll try to keep this up on the site from here till eternity, because it is so loved.

"For the Turnstiles" | (4.5 MB)
A Neil Young Cover.
My friend Jason Hatfield brought this song to me when we were getting the tiniest set of music together to play at the Battle for the Brattle last month. We called ourselves 'Meat Raffle' at the time, but have since evolved into a little project called 'Queering Society' (with our friend Jordan). This song was my favorite in our set, but we didn't get to play it, so we ran home to record it while it was hot. Jason is on lead vocals and I play shaker, organ and sing harmony. When we did it live (in our minds, anyway), I played Melodica, but I couldn't get the thing in tune for company.

"No One Knows" | (5.9 MB)
Live in the home with a couple of friends.
When my friend Rose Cousins was visiting, we ended up playing guitars in the living room
with Jordan Caress, and I brought this song out for fun... And the ladies
sang beautiful things that made us all GET SERIOUSLY EXCITED. We never
got tired of singing this (until it was 2 in the morning, pretty much).
This was recorded live to 2-track in my bedroom, in the wee hours, in
close proximity to the departure time of Rose's flight back to Halifax.
Jordan plays second guitar and we all sing - Rose C. on the high parts.
Also: You'll notice a bit of re-arranging - I put the last verse at the
very end, instead of right before the bridge. Some people get into these
things.
